The Coshocton Fire Department says overheating appears to be the cause of a fire at a local manufacturing processing plant.
Crews were dispatched to Wiley Organics on South Sixth Street just after 10:30 Saturday morning.
Captain William Arnold says the fire originated on the third floor of a five-story platform outside. Six fire departments fought the flames with an aerial ladder, and no one was sent onto the facility because Arnold says there were fears of a potential explosion. He says it took crews 30 minutes to contain the fire, but they were at the facility for more than two hours dealing with hot spots.
All three employees working at the time escaped without injuries.
Wiley Organics is known for its use of distillation processes of flavorings and other food-type products. Arnold says it appears the overheating may have occurred while employees were changing to another chemical. He says the company has brought in engineers to inspect the equipment and determine the amount of damage caused.
