Hunting is considered a popular recreational sport in the state of Ohio, but the number of deer bagged during the first six-weeks of the state's archery season is down 8% from last year's.
Ohio bow hunters have managed to kill close to 50,000 deer, with the highest counts coming from our area. Tuscarawas County leads the pack with more than 1,800, followed by Licking, Holmes, Coshocton, and Harrison counties. The archery season will continue through February 6th.
The total number of deer harvested during last year's four-month season was around 90,000 deer.
