Warden on Taking Over

The new year brings changes to both the Muskingum Valley Red Cross and Christ's Table.

Executive Director of Christ's Table Gretchen Sayre announced her retirement from the organization Monday morning. Sayre served on Christ's Tables board from 1986 to 1993, when she took then over as executive director. She said while she knows it's time to turn over the reigns they'll be things she misses.

"The people. The people," said Sayre. "The guests that come in. I don't see them as much as I used to because there is more stuff in the office. And the meetings. And some of the great people I have met through this program. I'll always remember."

Sayre said by far her biggest accomplishment is find a home for the organization.

"Getting this building and I don't know what you want to call it, but I was the one that worked on getting the subcontractors and getting this building ready to go," said Sayre.

Keely Warden, who currently works for the Muskingum Valley Red Cross will take over as executive director of Christ's Table. Warden is no stranger to Christ's Table having served on the organization's board for six years. Warden said her goal right now is to carry on the organization's mission.

"We just feed the hungry everyday. It's a big thing to do," said Warden. "It takes a lot of people. Our volunteers are wonderful here. Our board is wonderful here and we just want to continue to feed God's people."

Both women said that the transition should be smooth one. Sayre will help by working with Warden until at least March.

"She promises me that she's going to hand the shoes over and not make me start on my own," said Warden. "She's going to hold and make sure that's it's a smooth transition and make sure that nothing changes at Christ's Table."

Sayre said while she's sad to go she's looking forward to taking care of projects at home, while Warden said though she's stepping down from her position at the Red Cross it doesn't mean she'll stop volunteering for them.
