With the holidays upon us, many people searching for jobs look forward to seasonal employment. But according to Julie Metzger of the Muskingum County Opportunity Center, this year's employment opportunities are becoming more sparse.
"They were extending hours to existing employees, a couple of the retail stores did bring on a few people but that was through their own application process. We didn't actually do anything for them here this year," said Metzger.
Although last season's success is causing problems for this year's employment, Metzger said there are several things people can do that will help them during their job search.
"The biggest thing is just to hit the ground running and be persistent. If there is a place you find that you really want to work, make sure you keep checking back on your application that you filled out," said Metzger.
The Muskingum County Opportunity Center also provides job skills classes free of charge. You can call their office for more information at 740-454-6211.
