Three area fire departments battle a house fire in Springfiled Township.
The South Zanesville Fire Department responded to 1105 Lent Road around 3 p.m. The fire started beneath the home and went up the walls and spread to the ceiling.
"The damage to the home structurally is extensive but we were able to salvage some of the homeowners property," said Lieutenant Robert Kirkbride of the South Zanesville Fire Department.
Due to the cold weather and stubbornness of the fire, additional crews were brought in from Falls and Newton Townships. Lieutenant Kirkbride said in a situation like this one, they had to use a foam agent which is more resourceful.
"It's a fire fighting agent that it hooks to the wood and stuff like that and helps put out the fire, it's better than water in a rural situation like this, the less water you can use the better," he said.
The Red Cross is assisting the homeowner who has not been identified at this time. The fire remains under investigation.
