Martin speaks about Lear

Darrell Lear was a man that believed in Zanesville City Schools.

The superintendent of the school district said Tuesday that Lear was the type of man that would work 12-14 hours a day and even weekends if needed.

Now, the district he loved so much is planning to honor his efforts in the form of a memorial bench and tree.

"Darrell has been my right hand man in so many project here in the last few years," explained Superintendent Terry Martin. "We feel that we owe he and his family a lasting memorial for his efforts and his contributions to Zanesville City Schools."

The bench and tree will be located at  Zanesville High School where Lear spent time working as the construction liaison.

"Darrell is someone who was always seen on the campus, he was there working with the construction people," said Martin. "We'll put a place for his spirit to rest and look down and give us his spiritual guidance from time to time."

The district hopes the bench and tree will eventually become part of a planned memorial park at the high school, honoring those who have passed on and did extraordinary things for the district.
