A Licking County inmate serving a 180 day sentence for assault is found dead in his cell.
Sheriff Randy Thorp said 47-year-old Torin Dickie, of Newark, was found unresponsive in his cell around 7:43 Saturday night. Authorities said Dickie had tied a sheet around a sink spigot and hung himself by lying on the floor of his cell.
The inmate was last seen just after 7:15pm asleep in his bunk during a head count.
Deputies and nursing staff began immediate resuscitation efforts and called medics from the Newark Fire Department.
He was pronounced dead, Sunday at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Sheriff Thorp said Dickie had not given any indication of suicidal tendencies. He was being held in an isolated cell because he had informed staff he would harm other inmates.
