With the economy still in the red, the Muskingum County Commissioners are in the process of approving this next year's budget and things are looking rather tight.
The County Commissioners have already passed appropriations for 25 percent of the budget for the 2011 fiscal year. Commissioner Jerry Lavy says estimated revenues are coming in and they are lower than what the county had hoped for. This means the budget belt just got a little tighter.
"Obviously when you have revenues down and requests are up, then you have a situation where you have to go back and fine tune and that's what we have done is ask the elected officials and department heads to go back and review their budgets," says Lavy.
Lavy anticipates a budget between 28 and 29 million dollars for the general fund and 30 million overall.
"It's going to be very very tight. We're trying to work our best to reach that goal to where were going to be in balance," adds Lavy.
The Commissioners hope to have the 2011 budget completely done by March 1st.
