Congressman Bob Gibbs was in Zanesville Thursday for his new district office open house.
Gibbs was greeted by many familiar faces from the area to welcome him to his new office. Gibbs says his open house is part of making sure he is more accessible to residents of his district. He says the 18th District is rather large and encourages people to stop by his office to voice their concerns.
"My charge to the staff is to get out. I want my staff to be out. We're going to have a couple staff that will be working in the office all the time that will be dealing with constituent case load stuff," says Gibbs.
Gibbs is also encouraging business owners to express their concerns and challenges they are facing in the community.
"One thing we're doing in this congress is in the committee process, we're doing a lot of oversight hearing. We're going to be bringing the bureaucrats in and the agencies and making them accountable and we need to have real life examples of things that are going on that probably need to be changed along with changing policies," adds Gibbs.
WHIZ also talked to the congressman about the current situation overseas in Egypt. He says he wants to make sure all American citizens return home safely. He also says what is going on in the Middle East is a good reminder of the importance of breaking away from foreign oil dependency since Egypt owns the Suez Canal.
"We need to make sure we provide for a growing economy with reliable and affordable energy to fuel the economy and create jobs. "
Congressman Gibbs office is located at 1166 Military Road Suite B in Zanesville.
