The recycling program in Muskingum County is showing a promising future despite the struggling economy.
Coordinator Robert Reiter of the Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District met with the Muskingum County Commissioners Tuesday afternoon, to discuss updates on its recycling center located on Adamsville Road.
"Times are tough, everybody needs to make a little more money and there's less money out there so we're looking at a few more ways to bring more dollars in to the recycling facility," said Robert Reiter.
He said he is currently discussing a deal with a company in Cleveland who is looking for a location in the district to put in a branch of their computer recycling operation. They'd like to figure out other ways to make more money.
"We're looking at scaling back some of those commercial collection operations where we just have a truck go out to a business and pick up a little bit of this and a little bit of that," said the coordinator.
He said they also plan to increase the number of trailers and sites in the area. Last year $34,000 made from recycling operations was put back into the general revenue fund.
