Christ's Table just got cooler thanks to a grant from the National Walmart Foundation.
The $65,000 grant helped them put in a new cooler and new freezer cutting down on energy costs. Plus, it let's them take in more donations and serve more people. Before this, the kitchen could not be as efficient.
"We had chest freezers everywhere and the donations would come in and they would get buried and they would get frost bitten and um our energy costs were high running all of those chest freezers and it was just awful," Keely Warden, Christ's Table.
Students in the HVAC program at Mid-East Career and Technology Center installed the freezers during their class time so the upgrade was free. On Wednesday Christ's Table threw them a thank you dinner.
"They are fabulous. They are our freezer elves. They came in at night and did it and we would come everything would be clean and before you knew it we had a new cooler and a new freezer," said Warden.
Warden says the kitchen's vision is now a reality and they will donate the other freezers.
