Farmers Serve the Community

Farmers only receive $.20 of every dollar spent at the grocery store.

At Mid-East on Saturday farmers invited the community to breakfast. The breakfast cost only $.50 to represent what farmers make and gave them a chance to explain what they provide the community.

"It provides the food, the fiber and the pharmaceuticals we all need to provide food, clothing and health care to our people on an everyday basis," said Farmer Andy Spiker.

Only 1% of the country are farmers, but with the health benefits of eating locally grown food becoming known more people may choose to eat what their neighborhood farmers grow.

"If you decide to get locally grown products you are not only supporting your local farmers , your local producers of food, you have a lot less preservatives."

The Zanesville Farmer's Market runs May - October at the Fairgrounds on Saturdays.
