Two people are seriously injured in an early morning crash on Saturday that temporarily shut down part of Maple Avenue in Zanesville.
Sergeant Chris Rice with the Zanesville Police Department said it happened around 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Brown Street.
"It appears that the gray dodge charger was traveling northbound on Maple Avenue, went left of center and struck the white minivan as it was coming southbound on Maple at Brown," said Sgt. Rice.
Both drivers were taken to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. The driver of the white minivan was then flown by Medflight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. She is currently in the intensive care unit.
"Normally the accidents that were running into on Maple Avenue it appears are more fender bender type accidents, we have some minor injuries, but the seriousness of this accident is relatively rare," said the sergeant.
Maple Avenue between Caldwell Street and Dresden Road was reopened three hours later. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. The State Highway Patrol is assisting the Zanesville Police Department in investigating.
