An area college is hoping to help with economic development in southeastern Ohio.
Zane State College President Paul Brown met with Muskingum County Commissioners on Monday to sign an agreement that will transfer the land currently occupied by the former County Home to the college so they can build an Advanced Science and Technology Center.
"It's great to have partners like the commissioners that are forwarding thinking about what this community can become and how great it could be with a trained work force in the sciences," said President Dr. Paul Brown.
The facility will offer a wide variety of programs focusing on areas like geothermal technology and solar and wind energy. Brown said this is a part of their investment campaign and believes it will help with job growth in the community.
"The trained work force is then going to translate to more jobs in the community and raise the standard of life for all the community because we're bringing more industry into the area," said Dr. Brown.
He said they hope to break ground by 2012 and have the facility fully operation by 2013.
