One basketball game had the crowd cheering from beginning to end.
Our very own WHIZards took on the Muskingum County Tigers Saturday morning. The annual game is hosted by the Muskingum County MR/DD and Starlight Programs. Special Olympic Coordinator Sandy Drenton said aside from having fun, they also hope to raise awareness about those who are disabled.
"We want to show that together we can do anything, we've got a great basketball team, we've got great skills we do other things throughout the season with special Olympics, but today it's all about basketball," said Drenton.
The game was closely contested, but the Tigers ended up defeating the WHIZards 60 to 57. We had a chance to talk to WHIZard's guard Chris Smith about their loss.
"We let them run their pace, they pushed the pace, they had us from the beginning, they had a really good game plan we watched the tape, just couldn't execute, we come out every night and try hard but sometimes you just can't fight hard enough," he said.
The Tigers recently took second place in the division three state tournament. Today was their final game of the season.
