Flooding can pose serious dangers and the Muskingum Valley Red Cross is offering a few tips to ensure area residents are prepared.
Director of Health and Safety Julie Davis said if you live in an area where there could be potential flooding, it's important to know what to expect so you can plan ahead.
"Have something ready where you can just grab it and get out, your medications, suitcase with clothing with it in case you have to stay somewhere and can't get back home, and have a plan for your pets know what you're going to do with them," she said.
David said you can avoid some damage by placing valuable items on shelves or moving them to higher floors in your home. She said if you need to escape quickly, make sure you have gas in your car.
"I know with the gas prices these days it isn't always easy to keep your tank full, but you need to be able to go in case you have to," said Davis.
