Funding Port Authority

Money's tight for the Zanesville/Muskingum County Port Authority.

The Port has around $93,000 in its general fund. The board has projected that while things are running smoothly money will get very tight towards the end of the year. In the past the Port has relied heavily on land sales to keep the general fund running. The biggest piece of property is the Job Ready Site at Eastpointe.

"We've had some interest in the Job Ready Site," said Executive Director Mike Jacoby. "Not as much as I would like to see there, but we have had other interest in some other properties, much smaller properties, but hey we'd be happy with some smaller projects too."

The Port Authority is addressing the possibility of the Joint Economic Development District that includes Washington Township and the City of Zanesville to help out with the responsibility of upkeep of Eastpointe.

"We'd like to see before there's a distribution of income tax the Joint Economic Development for some of those operating expenses to be paid for from some of those proceeds."

In the past the Port Authority has paid the electric bill for street lights, mowing and other operating expenses.
