National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

You have a chance to get rid of unwanted prescriptions this Saturday.

If you have unused or expired prescription drugs including pills, liquids, and needles filling your medicine cabinet, be sure to stop by the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health Department parking lot this Saturday to dispose of them.

"You can just drive up with a bag full of whatever as long as it's precription pills or liquids or stuff like that and we will take that from you," said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Lutz says it's a safer way to dispose of medication.

"It's getting them out of their houses to where no one can steal them or sell them on the street and no one can abuse them," said Lutz.

The Health Department will only accept prescription medications. The program is free and anonymous. Personal information will be cut off the original containers and destroyed. The hours for taking in prescription drugs are from 9 am until 1 pm.
