The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department held its Mother's Day fundraiser on Sunday.
The event started back in 1970 and has become an annual tradition. The firefighters began prepping 1,200 BBQ chickens at 4 a.m. Chief Gene Hanning said the proceeds help with general supplies.
"Operations to the department and the equipment that we always have some need and every year we're doing something so it's not targeted to just one specific item," said Chief Hanning.
He said it means a lot to know so many people are willing to lend a helping hand.
"We're all proud of the way the community comes in and support us and takes care of us and turns out for this, that says a lot," said the Chief. "We try to do a good job for them and they come back and return the favor to us and that's what were proud of."
The department is always looking for volunteer firefighters and EMT's. For more information you can call 740-452-2221.
