Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire Monday afternoon in Zanesville.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. at 2430 Vinsel Street.

According to Assistant Zanesville Fire Chief Bruce Burley, the damage to the home was considerable and the fire appears to have started in a back bedroom. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze quickly.

Burley says the home's occupant Heather Powers was not home at the time of the fire.

Several kittens were rescued from the home.
