Over the past couple of weeks, there have been several crashes involving motorcycles. Friday, the Highway Patrol is weighing in on the matter to both motorists and motorcyclists.
Sergeant Chuck Merryman of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway patrol says with the increased presence of motorcycles on area roads ,also comes the increased risk of being involved in a crash. He advises those who ride to wear protection including helmets, gloves, and goggles.
"And always drive sober of course. During the warmer months, we do have a tendency to see more motorcyclists, more traffic crashes and at times, fatalities," said Merryman.
Merryman says drivers of vehicles should also take note of motorcyclists.
"Give them a little bit of extra room. Just be aware that they are out there and take time especially at intersections to make sure that there is no oncoming traffic before you make your turns," said Merryman.
Merryman says over the last three years, there have been well over 500 cyclists killed in Ohio
