AAA projects 34.9 million Americans, including nearly 1.4 million Ohioans, will travel 50 miles or more during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Throughout the past year, AAA has seen a lot of demand for travel. This fact alone, combined with a slowly improving economy, has led to a huge increase in the number of travelers.
"We are going to have lots of people on the roadways, they are going to be crowded, and every year inevitably people break down. AAA expects to help 115,000 people locally...8.7 million across the country," said AAA Spokesperson Kimberly Schwind.
With the increase in drivers, many of them will end up stranded this holiday weekend and throughout the summer. Although AAA's goal is to get these drivers back on the go, there are certain tasks you should follow before leaving home...one of those tasks concerning your battery.
"That's very important. During the summer, we see a lot of batteries die because of the heat. Heat is very hard on batteries so a good idea to check that battery before taking a trip," said Schwind.
Schwind says other helpful tasks include inspecting all five tires, replacing wiper blades and refilling washer fluid.
