Most people know Firefighters can take the heat when battling a blaze, but put an open flamed grill in front of them and watch out!
The Falls Township Volunteer Fire Department hosted their annual Chicken Barbecue on Sunday afternoon. The crew served up about 1,500 chicken dinners. One local resident, Dean Cole, said he makes a point to support the department by coming out with his family each year.
"Its always good, it's half a chicken, prepared to perfection," said Cole. "Along with side dishes, and there is always good deserts to go along with it so, we never miss this occasion."
Firefighter and Paramedic,Tyler Huber, said, the crowd continues to grow each year and that it's not unusual for them to sell out. But he said, no matter how big the crowd, in case of an emergency, it's business first.
"You're going to see a bunch of guys scrambling," said Huber. "But we'll still make sure everybody's here and gets taken care of."
All proceeds from the event will go towards training fire personnel and equipment. Last year the crew raised around $4,000.
