A local businessman is now bringing his ethnic influence to Zanesville.
Tarek Ragheb first came to the United States in 1997. Noticing there were not many Greek foods available he decided to opened his own restaurant 'Gyro and Shish Kebobs.' The restaurant first opened in Columbus and after much success, he is now moving to Zanesville.
"To be honest I am very excited about this location here because the people here are very friendly," said Ragheb. "I like them very, very much and I like serving them. I was surprised with them, they act that way with me to be honest because they are friendly, nice, cool people, they are respecting me, I am respecting them and I like that."
The restaurant prides itself on promoting fresh, healthy foods of a unique variety... Including items such as grape leaves, stuffed egg plant, fried cauliflower, and more. Gyros and Shish Kebabs will mark Zanesville's 29th Ribbon Cutting in only 28 months. Mayor Butch Zwelling said this is only the beginning.
"Of 30, 31, 32, 33, there are 4 restaurants that are preparing to open in the North end of Zanesville," said Zwelling. "This one I didn't hear about until last night, they kind of slipped in one me."
Ragheb hopes to continue his success by opening another location in Athens. 'Gyro and Shish Kebobs' can be found along Maple Avenue. The new place is located in the former Pizza Hut carry-out shop just across the street from Nikko's Dry Cleaning.
