With rising temperatures many families are desperate for relief.

The Salvation Army of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties offer Emergency Housing for families and individuals in need. Director Karen Walker said often times during the extreme summer months and winter months she will see a rise in those seeking services.

"You know when it gets this hot outside it's very difficult for anybody to be out in the elements," said Walker. "It's not safe for individuals to be out in the elements so they come out not only for food and shelter but because it is very dangerous to be out is this type of weather. "

Walker said of the 35 beds available there is currently one bed open in the mens dorm and only a few available in the womens dorm. She said this is above average capacity when they are only about 50% full. The shelter is open to anyone in need but Walker reminds individuals you will need to abide case plans and work.

"The idea is to get individuals back on their feet and get them employed and into their own housing," said Walker. "So that they don't have to be in an emergency shelter."

If you or someone you know is interested in the emergency shelter call The Salvation Army at (740) 452-8350  to ask about openings. You will need to provide a photo i-d and social security number.
