It was a sweltering week for the Perry County Fair....
Fair Board President Barry Bowers said this year's attendance is down with the sluggish economy playing a small role, but the heat seemed to be the main culprit keeping residents inside at home and staying cool...but of course, the heat doesn't stop everyone.
"We do have some troopers they come to Perry County, they've been good to us they bare the heat and they come to the fair," said Bowers.
Bowers said attendance is down for fairs all throughout the state, but the number of campers is on the rise. He believes families use the local fairs as a "stay-cation" to save money opposed to taking out-of-state vacations. Campers spend time enjoying the festivities and then can easily find relief from the heat back at their camp sight.
"We do our camper numbers grow every year," said Bowers. "This year we are probably up 30 campers from last year."
The fair opened Monday morning and ran through Saturday evening. If you missed the opportunity, The Muskingum County Fair will start the beginning of next month.
