A new reports suggests Ohio may have more people suffering from hunger than most states.

The study through the Anti-Hunger Group Food Research and Action Center indicates Ohio is a top 20 contender for food hardship- with 1 in 4 families unable to afford food in the past 12 months. Executive Director of Christ's Table Keely Warden has seen the spike, with the number of meals and families served showing a steady incline since 2005. Warden blames the upward trend on the poor economy.

"It's really a difficult time to go to the grocery store," said Warden. "We're all overwhelmed when we get there so Christ's Table is open to anybody."

The report comes from a Gallup Poll Data where children were asked if there had been times in the past year when their family couldn't afford food- for Christ's Table they've served 13% more children this summer than in years passed. Warden said it's a difficult number to swallow but reaching out to the children has been a goal of Christ's Table for a long time.

"We always want to reach more children because we know what a big world nutrition plays in their life and their everyday, everything they do everyday," explained Warden.

Christ's Table is open Monday through Saturday and is available to anyone.
