The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency works quickly to clean up an oil spill.
Around 6:20 Tuesday morning EMA officials were called to Mar-Zane at the intersection of Moxahala Avenue and Ohio 719 when a delivery truck ran into a holding tank. The force ruptured a holding tank causing 265 gallons of waste oil to spill out onto the pavement. The oil was able to be contained before it seeped into a nearby creek.
"It get into the water than it can affect the fish, it can affect the birds and stuff that live in the water," explained Jeff Jadwin with the EMA. "It could have been a major problem."
While the EMA often deals with spills Jadwin said this was a little bigger than normal. There are procedures in dealing with spills.
"Anything that is over 25 gallons must be reported to us so that's why we were here," said Jadwin.
A vac truck was brought into the scene to suck up the oil and clear the site.
