Zanesville High School football players are tackling a project to help other kids get ready for school.
Tuesday is distribution day for the annual Wendy's/WHIZ's Lace Up for Kids campaign. Secretary of the Board for Eastside Community Ministry Sally Goins said the football players are helping over 1,000 children lace up new shoes.
"They are a tremendous help, because we need help with heavy-lifting, and it's also wonderful to have the community involved," said Goins.
Goins said the players are transporting and arranging the shoes, so the kids can try them on. Sophomore lineman Zach Clapper said it feels good to give back.
"I think it makes a big difference," said Clapper. "Some of these kids just need a pair of shoes or cleats to play a sport, and maybe that sport will help them get an education one day. "
Distribution day will take place on Tuesday from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Zanesville Civic League Community Center.
