The Highway Patrol will be looking for drunk drivers Friday night during a sobriety checkpoint in Muskingum County.
The checkpoint will take place on US 22 just south of Wal-Mart in Newton Township. The checkpoint, funded by federal grants is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.. If stopped prepare to produce your license, registration and proof of insurance.
"There shouldn't be much of a wait at all. Depending on the traffic volume, we don't stop every car that drives on US 22. If traffic is heavy they may stop every 3rd car every 5th car," said Sgt. Clark Felix from the State Highway Patrol.
Not only will patrols will be at the checkpoint, they'll be on side roads as well.
"We just want to saturate the entire area, the side streets that run of US 22 to make sure there are no impaired drivers," said Sgt Felix.
Sgt. Felix said that between 30-40 percent of fatal crashes involve alcohol. It's one of the reasons the patrol will hold 27 checkpoints between no and Labor Day. The Friday night checkpoint will be held between 10 pm and 2 am.
