The South Zanesville Church of Nazarene is giving back to the community one pint at a time.
The church hosted a blood drive and food drive on Saturday. Church member Glee Patterson said blood is in high demand right now.
"39,000 pints of blood are needed each day," said Patterson. "That's a lot of blood, so we're hoping to do our part to make sure that it gets out there where it's needed."
Patterson said everyone who donated blood received a homemade treat. Pastor Walt Gessner said a "smoke house" was on scene to teach children about fire safety.
"Fires do take place, and nobody plans on those things," said Gessner. "It's good for them to know what to do and how to get out if there is a fire."
Church members said they hope to hold similar events every other month.
