With the ten year anniversary of September 11th upon us, you have the opportunity to help our troops.

Mona Taylor of Zanesville passed away Wednesday, August 31st. To commemorate her, family members, in connection with the Bryan-Snider Funeral Home have set up a donation box to support Operation Spirit.

Mona proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, and did civilian work while in the Reserves.

"She had served in Korea from 1955 to 1958, then remained in the Reserves, and actually had to do a short stint in the Navy, because there wasn't a Marine unit in town." said Funeral Director Phil Zehms.

Mona's family members say she wouldn't have wanted flowers for her funeral, but rather something that would support the troops who are currently serving.

The drop-off box will remain at the Bryan-Snider Funeral Home through the month of September, Zehms says with the 10th anniversary of September 11th closing in, there couldn't be a better time to donate to our troops.

"I think people in our generation remember exactly what they were doing on September 11th, 2001." said Zehms "This being the ten year anniversary of that really strikes me into the heart of the police, the fireman, the troops then that ensued after that, the war that's been going on for quite a while, all of those things, it should make us proud to be Americans and we should continue to pull together. "

Zehms says Muskingum County is always great about pulling together. He is asking community members to donate to support the troops, and give them a touch of home.

"Because of them I am free, and that's what makes the difference." said Zehms "We just have such an affinity for our veterans, and for those currently serving, and that's why we want to take this extra step and be able to do this for them"

Zehms says they hope to deliver one or two full boxes to Operation Spirit. If you want to donate, you can drop off personal care items, monetary donations, or non-perishable food items to the Bryan-Snider Funeral Home, located at 2318 Maple Avenue in Zanesville.
