Members of We Are Ohio gathered in front of Zanesville City Hall on Thursday to send a message to the community.

The coalition is asking people to vote "no" on Issue 2.  President of Local 88 Zanesville Professional Firefighters Trevor Meek said Ohioans should not have to balance the budget on their own backs.

"They're asking the working class - the firefighters, the police officers, the teachers - to take pay cuts and to make concessions, eliminating collective bargaining, but they're in Columbus, and they just gave a lot of the staff there huge raises," said Meek.

Meek said he's been a firefighter for 15 years, and eliminating collective bargaining would be a major loss for his fire department.

"A lot of it has to do with our safety issues, our man power issues, our equipment that we have," said Meek.  "Through collective bargaining, we're able to sit at the table and discuss those issues and come up with solutions for them."

We Are Ohio encourages voters to do some research before they make their decisions at the polls.
