Cats at the animal shelter in Muskingum County are looking for forever homes, and this weekend is the perfect opportunity to make a cat a member of your family.
The shelter is holding a free cat adoption day on Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Executive director Larry Hostetler said the shelter placed 149 cats in 6 hours last time.
"We're coming towards the end of kitten season, and after the last free cat adoption event, we filled up pretty quickly, so we haven't been able to take cats for a couple of weeks," said Hostetler. "Hopefully, this will reduce the population and get us through the rest of the year without any problems."
Hostetler said giving away cats for free is expensive, but donations make it possible for the shelter to waive adoption fees.
"We were fortunate enough to have somebody make a nice donation," said Hostetler. "They were really pleased that we found so many homes for cats last time, so they were very generous with their donation."
The shelter is having another fundraiser on September 24th. Applebee's is hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 AM. The $5 admission charge will benefit the shelter.
