Paving begins next month at the Eastpointe Industrial Park.
At a special meeting Wednesday the Port Authority awarded paving of Eastpointe Drive to the Shelly Company of Thornville with a bid of $200,712.55. They were one of three companies that competed for the project, the other two were Neff Paving with a bid of over $206,000 and Shelly and Sands with a bid of over $203,000.
"The entrance and the exit coming out of there with the load of the trucks breaking going up and coming down the hill and shifting has caused the road to deteriorate," said Muskingum County Commissioner Jerry Lavy. "This hopefully will correct that and make it a smoother in and out exit."
The Port Authority was able to use its new JEDD agreement with Washington Township in order to secure credit to fund the project which was estimated to cost over $187,000. Lavy said it's important to take care of the roadways in the park.
"If you have potential prospects coming in there, if they can see the road conditions are good and this is what's important to attract a business to the area," said Lavy.
Shelly Company still needs to sign a contract before they can begin work on the project. The Port Authority believes repaving will begin the start of October.
