Christ's Table is planning ahead to honor Veteran's Day and through the help of the local Veterans Group "Freedom is Yours" those who served can expect a memorable day of appreciation.
President of "Freedom is Yours" Robert Rose visited Christ's Table Monday to present a $500 check to be used towards the Veteran's Day celebration. In addition to the donation Veteran Elgin Littleton wanted to offer an additional $500 from his own pocket.
Littleton, who spent many years serving Veterans in need, recently lost his wife. He felt returning to his passion of helping those less fortunate would be what his wife wanted him to do.
"When my wife passed away I sold my company then I started working back again to help the Veterans," said Littleton. "Being without her sitting at home I couldn't stand it. Now I'm out here to do what she would want."
Overwhelmingly surprised by the donation, Executive Director of Christ's Table Keely Warden explained how the donations will contribute to the celebration.
"Lots of special foods, we're going to have patriotic cakes for all of our service men, who have served in the service, we're going to have all type of decorations and there's going to be flags every where," described Warden. "We just want to celebrate our Veterans and thank them for everything they've done for us."
Christ's Table estimates that about 30 Veterans visit regularly for a meal. The celebration will be open to all Veterans and their families.
