Thanksgiving isn't until next week, but on Tuesday about 300 preschoolers enjoyed a special feast with their families.
Coburn United Methodist Church in Zanesville hosted a free meal for children in Muskingum County's Head Start program. Assistant Director Joan Barr said the kids put on a performance and participated in educational activities with their parents.
"We want them to have a great time with their families, and we want their families to be engaged with them throughout the whole process of learning and growing up," said Barr.
Barr said the activities are designed to cost little money, so parents can learn ways to have fun on a budget. Although parts of the meal aren't very healthy, she said nutrition is a theme of the event.
"One of the games shows the children that they can eat a lot of carrots, a lot of green beans, but maybe not so much cake," said Barr.
Head Start provides education, health and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.
