There's a gift you can give your family this holiday season that will love you back.
The animal shelter in Zanesville is hosting an open house this weekend to place pets in forever homes. Executive Director Larry Hostetler said rescue groups, obedience trainers and vendors will also be on site.
"I always enjoy it because I get to see a lot of members of the community that I don't get to see," said Hostetler. "A lot of our board members will be here if people want to know who they are and meet them. It's just a fun event to see all the people come out and enjoy the shelter."
Hostetler said the shelter's cat room is exceeding capacity, but even if you're unable to take one home, he still encourages everyone to attend. The shelter has not set a fundraising goal, because the purpose of the event is to raise awareness.
"A lot of people don't know what we have to offer here, so it's always great to get them to come in and see what the shelter is about," said Hostetler.
The open house will take place on Saturday from noon to 4 PM. Refreshments will be served throughout the day.
