Final bids are being tallied on items auctioned off as part of this year's festival of trees.
The annual Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce fundraiser ended at six o'clock Friday evening. WHIZ's AM 12-40 is broadcasting the event live from the Welcome Center in downtown Zanesville. Money raised from the auctioned-off holiday decorations and incentives will be used to support local small business development.
"People support , or I should say enjoy, the holiday time and holiday season," said Chamber of Commerce President Tom Poorman. "But also the local businesses are very generous and they give back and support what we're trying to accomplish in terms of economical development at the Chamber of Commerce."
Co-Owner of The Zanesville Camera Shop Jodie Englehart has been volunteering and donating items at the fundraiser for nearly six years. Their family-owned business has been operating in Zanesville for three generations. She hopes the support of local businesses will continue to be a focus of the city.
"The local business trying to get people to shop locally, it's very important," expressed Englehart. "The big box stores are out there but people don't realize by going to the big box stores they're taking away from the local business owners that are paying taxes and that are supporting them."
We will have the final results of money raised on the WHIZ News at 11.
