Animal Shelter Raises Awareness

Tails were wagging on Saturday at the animal shelter in Zanesville.

The shelter held an open house to raise awareness about the services it provides.  People were greeted by pets up for adoption, and rescue groups, obedience trainers and vendors were also on site.  Marcia Pettet works for the Invisible Fence company, and she said this event is the perfect way to learn more about the shelter.

"It's a real eye-opener," said Pettet.  "You see how many pets need to be adopted out.  It's a very clean facility, and the people here just want to help the pets."

People were given tours of the grounds and had a chance to spend time with some of the animals looking for forever homes.  Pettet said there's nothing like watching a family pick out a new friend.

"If it wasn't for our shelters, we would have cats and dogs out there in the cold, not getting fed," said Pettet.  "They need homes.  They need families."

Tickets were sold for a raffle that included a framed picture, a dog bowl and other pet-themed items.
