Handmade crafts can make the best gifts during the holiday season.
Children could've been mistaken for Santa's elves as they participated in a holiday workshop at the Zanesville Civic League Community Center. Planning for Saturday's activities starts as early as October, and a lot of organizations come together, including the civic league and area girl scouts.
"When they can make five or six things and say this is for my aunt, this is for my uncle, this is for grandma, that puts a smile on our faces, because we know we've done something," said Lisa Rooks.
Kids painted candy jars, colored bookmarks and made tree ornaments out of recycled materials. Organizers said it's a cost-effective way for children to get into the giving spirit.
"It's so much fun for me to see the families come out and spend family time together," said Kim Matthews.
Santa made a special appearance at the workshop to pose for pictures with the kids.
