Questions and concerns surrounding the upcoming shale drilling in Muskingum County remains a topic for County Commissioners.
Senior Appalachian Regional Representative of Senator Sherrod Brown, Jeanne Wilson, spoke with the commissioners on the importance of working with the public and experts to discuss all aspects of the drilling.
"I think so we can be proactive, so we can be ready," said Commissioner Jerry Lavy. "I think from what we've heard in the past from some of the other areas that have experienced this that there is somethings that you should try to have in place and to be ready for these individuals when they come in."
Wilson spoke tentatively of plans to hold regional conferences- bringing together area experts, county officials and the public to answer any questions. Wilson said a key aspect of the conferences is to inform Ohio workers on the skills they'll need to obtain in order to receive a job with the oil companies, and to bridge the gap between job seekers and those hiring.
"That's the important thing, if they can bring jobs to the community,"expressed Lavy. "Not only does it bring jobs but they will also help the existing businesses already in place."
Wilson said the tentative plans of the conference will become more official in late February/early March. We'll continue to keep you up to date as information becomes available.
