The WHIZ Media Group teamed up with the Muskingum Valley Red Cross to give the gift of life for those who need it.
Secrest Auditorium played host to the blood drive, held Thursday from 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Red Cross Blood Services representative Richard Dayton said the organization holds blood drives almost every day, but even with the high frequency, there are times, especially during the holidays when they come up short.
"There are times where we don't meet out goal, and that poses challenges for us. We supply 41 area hospitals. In Zanesville, we supply the Genesis hospitals, and it we don't have blood to support people, obviously some surgeries have to be post-poned." said Dayton.
Those who took part in today's blood drive received a $10 Wal-Mart gift card, and were entered to win a $1,000 Easton Shopping Spree, and a one-night stay at the Easton Hilton.
Donor Wayne Newland gives blood every six months, and said he would be excited to spend that prize money.
"there was a blood drive here over a month ago, and I didn't even have any idea that they were doing the blood drive, but I'd really enjoy spending that money if I could."
When asked what he thought he would spend the money on, Newland replied, "Well, I probably wouldn't get to spend it. My wife would probably wind up spending it, and I'm sure there would be a lot of clothing involved."
