The merging of two Education Service Centers will provide a number of benefits to local school districts.
The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center and the Perry-Hocking Educational Service Center officially merged as of the first of the year.
"The one thing that we really looked at in the merger process was how can we provide more services at a cheaper rate then what we're currently doing, or what school districts are able to do with boys and girls and teaching staff and school districts," said Assistant Superintendent of the MVESC David Branch.
Branch says it's the duty of the Educational Centers to provide additional opportunities to the area school districts that wouldn't be affordable otherwise.
"For example two smaller school districts, sharing a school psychologist or a special education teacher," explained Branch. "We also provide professional development and we're able to do it for staff of all of the school districts, all 14 of the school districts we serve."
The merge will combine Muskingum, Morgan, Coshocton, Perry and Hocking counties. The Perry-Hocking Location will remain open as a regional office for the MVESC.
Anyone with questions should contact their local school district.
