Tourism typically stalls during the winter months, but Muskingum County continues to welcome visitors even as the weather gets colder.
Vice President of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce Kelly Ashby said 2011 was an incredible year for tourism.
"We had lots of opportunities for visitors to the area," said Ashby. "There were new adventures at The Wilds. The Lorena Sternwheeler had a fantastic season. Our museums all offered great things to our travelers, so it was a very good year for us in Muskingum County."
Ashby said the chamber isn't slowing down anytime soon. New brochures are being printed to market the county as a family-friendly destination.
"We do travel to quite a few trade shows, and in addition to that, we purchase advertising in magazines and newspapers," said Ashby. "We like to get in touch with travel writers to encourage them to write articles about the area."
Social media and other online resources are also being used to promote local attractions. Ashby said there's a lot to look forward to in 2012.
"New twists with our museums and other attractions," said Ashby. "They do a great job of doing something new, something different each and every year, so we certainly will talk about those twists and different things that our attractions are offering."
