Update on Northpointe Work

Muskingum County and the Ohio Department of Transportation continue to work on Northpointe Drive.

During Wednesday's Transportation Improvement District meeting the two sides traded information about the cost of the project. Because the work on Northpointe ran over the time frame set by the Federal government at least $75,000 must be paid by local funds. Final numbers for the project weren't available from ODOT. The county engineer plans to remedy that problem in the future.

"I would just have to put a man on the project everyday continually all day long so we can get quantities every day," said Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis. "We'll keep our spreadsheets with our office as well that way I can keep local people as well as myself informed on the current cost and what's being spent."

Davis has requested records for the Northpointe project from ODOT so he can see what was and wasn't paid. While that goes on motorists can look forward to seeing the roadway close again this spring, when the berms between Richvale and Powelson are replacing and repaving in that same area takes place.

"I think it will be safer for the construction traffic and allow us to do the work quicker and the contractor can multi facet his operation," said Davis. "It is more efficient, it's closed down a shorter period of time and traffic is inconvenienced."

Davis said they'll search for funding to pave the other sections of Northpointe.
