Sheriff's Office Getting Ready to Open

Employees of the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office are settling into their new home.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said the downtown location closed on Wednesday, and the new office on East Pike will open to the public on Tuesday.  Lutz said the move has been very successful so far, but there's still a lot of work to do during this transition period.

"Anytime you move, you're going to have excess stuff that you have to bring, and there's a lot of stuff that's been filed away that you don't need, so we'll be doing a lot of shredding, and we'll be getting rid of a lot of stuff out there," said Lutz.  "People are using today and tomorrow to get their offices fine-tuned and decide where they want everything."

The state-of-the-art dispatch center has a new phone system, flat screen televisions and space to hold meetings.  The entire sheriff's office except for Muskingum County Jail employees is together for the first time in over a decade.

"Words can't express how lucky and fortunate we are," said Lutz.  "We work closely with our commissioners.  Vince Durant and Randy Cochrane, who run children services out here, went to them with the idea of having the space available."

If you need assistance between now and Tuesday, you can still stop downtown at the jail lobby and ask to speak with a deputy.
