A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of seven illegal aliens in Muskingum County.
Sheriff Matt Lutz said one of his deputies pulled over a vehicle with Arizona registration on Interstate 70 just after midnight on Friday.
"Upon conducting his investigation into that case, he had seven Hispanic males in the vehicle," said Lutz. "The officer also had a K-9 check the vehicle, and the dog alerted to the vehicle as well for drug activity."
After the vehicle was seized and searched, no contraband was found, but Lutz said it's likely the men were involved in illegal drug activity.
"Our K-9's are pretty good about hitting on spots where drugs are or have recently been," said Lutz. "This vehicle had some signs of alterations done to it to conceal things. We actually took this one to our shop and really did a detailed search on it. This wasn't something done out on the street."
Lutz said the seven subjects were taken to the Muskingum County Jail, and they have been turned over to Federal Immigration and Custom Enforcement Officers.
