Zanesville High School was full of spirit Sunday afternoon...
The Blue Devils hosted the Y-City Classic Cheer Competition. Varsity Cheer Coach Stephanie Jones said her team spent a lot of time getting ready for the big day.
"Well there's a huge mat system in the gym that we have to set up, it takes about an hour and a half for us to get that set up. The whole school has to be set up for it, the tables and everything. Preparing, getting teams registered for the event. And then of course working the event all day today," said Jones.
This is the fourth time that Zanesville has held the competition. Jones said the event continues to grow every year, and competitors travel from all over the state.
"Well we're expecting over 700 competitors here today, the cheerleaders, so with the 700 cheerleaders come a lot of adults, but it's the biggest Americheer competition, regional competition, that they've had for the whole year. So, we're pretty proud that we're home to it here in Zanesville."
There were three separate award ceremonies to accommodate the large crowd.
