Art Walk Features Blind Artist

The month of March begins this week, so it's time for the First Friday Art Walk.

Schimmel Fitness is the featured business to host the event this month. It is currently housing the art work of Rick Crooks, a metal sculptor from Crooksville. Owner Bill Schimmel said he's amazed by Crooks' art, his creativity, and vision.

"I just really enjoy the fact that it's all common items that we see in junkyards, and instead of these items filling junkyards, I think it's really neat that he makes cool art out of it, and he does all that while he's legally blind," said Schimmel.

Schimmel Fitness showcases art from a number of local artists. Schimmel said Crooks' art is different, because it's something he's never seen... Made from items, we see quite often.

"When you look at it again, it looks like something 'Oh I could do that because I got wrenches at home', but just the vision to be able to see a pair of pliers and know it looks like a chicken's beak, is kind of cool to me."

The art walk takes place this Friday, March 2, from 5 to 8 p.m.
